The Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety has announced that the adult minimum wage will increase to $23.50 per hour starting 1 April 2025.
This represents a 35-cent increase per hour compared to the current rate of $23.15 per hour.

Additionally, the training and starting-out minimum wages will also rise proportionally, reaching $18.80 per hour, which is 80% of the adult minimum wage.
This is an increase from the current rate of $18.52 per hour.
For an employee working 40 hours per week, this adjustment will mean an additional $14 per week before taxes.
It is estimated that around 141,900 workers in New Zealand who currently earn between the old and new rates will benefit from this wage increase.
This change reflects the government's ongoing commitment to the well-being of workers and aims to improve the quality of life for those earning the minimum wage in the country.
